MAKING MOSAICS
I create mosaics with natural stones, marble or
glass mosaics imported from Italy. The tesserae are
traditionally made with the
professional tools of the mosaic artist: a hammer and a hardie
in order to ensure that the stones are very precisely cut.
This is the technique used by the mosaic artists of Ravenna. Mosaic nippers are used for glass or ceramic mosaics.
METHODS
The
marble mosaics are usually made according to the 'direct' method by placing
them onto a permanent support (which consists of placing the tesserae, section by section, directly onto a permanent
binder of cement). |
